ABOUT ACI:

Stress-free, uplifting & engaging.

THE ETHOS:

“Anyone Can Improvise” aims to give musicians of all ages and levels the tools, knowledge, and confidence to truly understand and engage with the music they are playing, in a practical and cognitive way.

These are NOT your typical “music lessons” as you may know them, but rather facilitated “improvisation sessions”. My focus is to guide and inspire the growth of creativity, expression and confidence of learners and NOT to tick boxes or do exams.

These music lessons are designed to create a safe space in which learners feels comfortable to experiment with musical ideas, no matter what level he/she is at. The goal is to get the learner improvising from the first session. These sessions are available to those who are already learning an instrument and to those who may have learnt in the past but need a fresh take on things to inspire them once again.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO IMPROVISE?

Improvisation is the act of spontaneously creating music. Even a composer who takes years to write a piece is in essence stringing together many spontaneous ideas together to create the finished article. With improvisation however, the time between conception and presentation are instant!

The act of improvisation is an exercise and a challenge in musical creativity, confidence, and one’s fundamental understanding of music. It requires the musician to listen deeply and to commit phrases, sounds, textures, moods etc. to memory for quick recall later on.

As a guitarist myself, much of the joy I've experience with music as been while improvising/jamming/making it up in the moment with other musicians. This is an art that is cognitively engaging and socially enriching.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

If you are already learning an instrument, or are an old dog looking to learn new tricks, I'd love to hear from you.

There is no need to commit to regular sessions. If you'd like a once off session or even to check in with me sporadically then please do.

LOCATION?

I'm based in South London but can travel for longer individual and group sessionsIn some cases I will offer sessions internationally if and when I am travelling.
